Prior to the scan, you’ll receive an injection of a tiny dose of a chemical known as a radiotracer by your specialist. Next, you’ll lie flat on a table which will be moved into the center of the round, doughnut-shaped scanner. By detecting the presence and locations of the radiotracer, the scanner’s computer will make images of your organs and tissues. You can expect your PET-CT to take about 30 to 60 minutes for the scan itself.
